What Is Bulletproof Coffee?

Bulletproof coffee is the latest craze sweeping the nation and you might have heard coffee lovers rave about it.

If the stories are to be believed, it can satiate your appetite, give you lots of energy, sharpen your focus, boost your complexion and even give you superhero powers.

So okay, we lied about the last one. But all the same, bulletproof coffee comes with some pretty big claims.

But what is it?

Bulletproof coffee was first discovered by Dave Asprey.

This is a mixture of high quality coffee mixed with MCT oil and grass fed butter.

Although it sounds less than appetizing, the results are enticing.

The caffeine handles your brain’s needs and gives you that boost you need in the mornings, whilst the butter and MCT oil delivers “good” fat to your body.

These fats help nourish your organs and kiss your metabolism’s ass.

Because it helps to suppress hunger, it has become of special interest to dieters everywhere, but especially those following a low carb diet.

Bulletproof coffee is best described as an acquired taste and we would be lying if we said that everyone falls in love with it the first time.

Although it has many devotees out there who rave about the flavor; for others, the oily residue that is left in their mouths is less than desirable.

The thing about bulletproof coffee is because you can make it at home, you can play about with the recipe until you achieve something that you like.

All you have to do is to invest in a blender, to invent your own combination of flavors, that works for you and your palate.

Some suggestions to boost the flavor include adding coconut oil – this brings a nuttiness to the taste that many people adore.

Using your blender can enhance the creaminess and the smoothness of the texture of the coffee.

Oh, and a word of warning about the oils.

Most recipes call for two teaspoons of fats to be added to the coffee.

It is probably best to add this gradually and let your system get used to it. If you add two teaspoons of oils all in one go it could result in you being rather more – um – regular than usual.

We would advise that anyone new to bulletproof coffee builds this up gently, until they are in more of a position to tolerate it.

How you take your bulletproof coffee is entirely down to you – which is one of the reasons that it is so popular.

Additions to the basic recipe are a personal choice, but some of the flavors that have been tried include cacao butter, turmeric, cardamom and nutmeg.

Blend it as well as you can do. We would advise getting a quality blender to do the honors, because the better it is blended, the better it is going to go down.

Done correctly, the coffee will resemble a slightly creamier espresso.

Bulletproof coffee will only help you lose weight as part of a low carb diet – do your research carefully before glugging back loads of them!
